Atmosphere, charm and perspectives for the future - living and working in Regensburg

Regensburg, situated at the northernmost point of the River Danube, is one of the most promising centers of economic and technological growth in Germany - one very good reason why Antisense Pharma selected this site as one of the leading biotech companies in the area. Large, internationally operating companies from various sectors are represented in the region. In the ranking compiled by Prognos Zukunftsatlas 2010 comparing some 400 districts and municipalities in Germany, Regensburg is ranked 11th. In an analysis carried out by Manager Magazin covering more than 1,000 regions within Europe regarding development perspectives in 2009, Regensburg even finishes 8th - making it one of the most interesting and attractive regions.

Innovative companies in the field of research and development enrich Regensburg as an economic center. The city's BioPark, where Antisense Pharma has its headquarters, is Bavaria's second largest biotech cluster behind Munich. Ground-breaking product developments in the areas of biotechnology and life science are created here, often in collaboration with university research groups. Regensburg's universities are located directly adjacent to the BioPark. About 25,000 students attend the university and call the city their home.

The historical city center impresses with its Italian-style flair and lively atmosphere. The largest cohesive medieval city center in the all of Germany was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in July 2006. "A remarkable number of historical structures from two centuries have been preserved, including ancient Roman and Gothic buildings. Regensburg's architecture of the 11th and 13th century - including the market square, town hall and cathedral - define the character of the city to this day" was the stated reason for the committee's decision.

With a population of 140,000, Regensburg lies at the heart of the new Europe in the region of Upper Palatinate. The city's application and participation in the finals of the "Cultural Capital of Europe 2010" competition demonstrates just how closely the people of Regensburg identify with the European ideal.

Cultural life as well plays a very important part in Regensburg. This is proven by its lively theater and concert scene. Master concerts, distinguished artists and many art galleries add to the cultural life of the city. There is also a broad range of opportunities for leisure activities: Music from D as in "the Domspatzen" (famous boys' choir) and J as in Jazz have a long tradition in Regensburg. The numerous public squares and the river Danube provide popular meeting places for people of all ages, especially in summer. The nearby Bavarian Forest and Alps provide a wide range of opportunities for sports and relaxation in the outdoors. Munich and Nuremberg are only one hour away by car, Prague approximately three hours.
