Antisense Pharma is an innovative pharmaceutical company whose objective it is to develop and market novel antisense technology - based drugs for the targeted treatment of cancer and other as yet incurable diseases. Founded in Göttingen in 1998, the company is now located at the expanding BioPark in Regensburg, Bavaria, one of the most succesful biotech centers in Germany. Antisense Pharma is managed by corporate executives who have both scientific and entrepreneurial expertise in biotechnology. The dedicated staff comprises a dynamic group of team players with extensive pharmaceutical, clinical, regulatory and business experience. Antisense Pharma develops antisense drugs, which specifically block the production of key proteins responsible for the onset and progression of diseases such as cancer. This novel therapeutic approach directly tackles the pathogenic cause(s) rather than combating merely the effects of the disease. The platform technology .R.A.D.A.R. The lead product of Antisense Pharma, trabedersen (also known as AP 12009), has reached the final stage of clinical testing before potential market approval. Trabedersen has been developed to activate the body’s own immune system against highly aggressive tumors by inhibiting the production of the tumor factor TGF-beta2 (TGF-β2). TGF-β2 multimodally promotes the onset and progression of tumors in a variety of cancers. Most importantly, it builds up a protective shield around the tumor, which allows the tumor to escape the body’s immune surveillance. Trabedersen destroys the protective shield and enables the body’s immune system to combat the cancer cells (see products for details). An exciting, international patent portfolio includes trabedersen, further candidate antisense compounds as well as various target proteins. |
